Izmir, Turkey - October 21, 2015: Abdul Aziz is a 32 or 33 year old Syrian refugee from Deir Ez-Zur. One of 9 kids. Worked in the insurance business in Saudi Arabia for a few years. Used up all his savings while in Deir Ez Zur and was unable to work because of the war. Arrived in Izmir two days ago after about four months in Urfa. Expected to go to Greece last night but the boat had no space and so he didn’t leave Izmir. Plans to go tonight. I asked if he was scared at all of the crossing. He smiled and said, "Excited, not afraid. If I die, it is no loss because I have already died."
