The flag of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, locally called Artsakh, is seen at a souvenir stand at the "We Are Our Mountains" monument, located on the outskirts of Stepanakert. The sculpture, hewn from volcanic tufa and completed in 1967 by Sargis Baghdasaryan, depicts an old man and woman who represent the mountain people of Karabakh.
