A woman explores an abandoned school, built in the early 1900s, in Shushi, Nagorno-Karabakh. Fighting raged in the region in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and in 1991 Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan, declaring independence. Internationally, however, it is still recognized as part of Azerbaijan.
