Corregidor Island, Philippines - July 26, 2019: The view while standing underneath the gun barrel at Battery Hearn, the largest military gun on Corregidor Island. The 12-inch gun, built in 1921, could fire 1,000-pound projectiles a distance of 17 miles. Corregidor was the last holdout of American forces against the Japanese during Japan’s invasion of the Philippines, which began in December 1941. General Wainwright surrendered the island on May 6, 1942.
