Paneriai, Lithuania - August 12, 2015: While the exact numbers are unknown, an estimated 100,000 people died at the hands of the Nazis during World War II in Paneriai, Lithuania. Pictured is one of the pits where corpses were burned; the ladder ramp is a replica. Most of those killed were Jews, but some 20,000 Poles and 10,000 Soviet POWs were also executed.
