Kakadu National Park, Australia - September 5, 2017: Standing at Nadab lookout in Ubirr, at Kakadu National Park in Australia's Northern Territory, Phoebe Reeve, a ranger for Parks Australia, speaks to visitors about the late Bill Neidjie. An indigenous Australian and Bunitj elder, Bill Neidjie died in 2002 but left behind traditional wisdom like this:
Earth
Like your father or brother or mother
because you born from Earth.
You got to come back to Earth.
When you dead, you’ll come back to Earth.
Maybe little while yet…then you’ll come back to Earth.
That’s your bone, your blood.
It’s in this Earth, same as for tree.
And also like this:
My people...Not many...
We getting too old.
Young people. I don't know if they can hang onto this story.
But now you know the story...
...You responsible now.
You got to go with us. To Earth.
Might be you can hang on, hang onto this story.
To this Earth.
Earth
Like your father or brother or mother
because you born from Earth.
You got to come back to Earth.
When you dead, you’ll come back to Earth.
Maybe little while yet…then you’ll come back to Earth.
